In its first foray out of the United Kingdom, hospitality giant Thistle Hotels will be making its presence felt in Asia through two key hotel properties in Malaysia - Thistle Johor Bahru and Thistle Port Dickson Resort.

The development reflects Thistle Hotels’ ambitions to extend its domination of the middle market hotel business in the UK by offering world class premium products to an upmarket international audience.

Thistle Hotels, London's biggest hotel chain, plans to sell six London hotels with the help of UBS Investment Bank, its Singapore-based parent BIL said on Tuesday. London, May 9 (Bloomberg) -- Thistle Hotels Plc, the operator of 24 London hotels, said Chief Executive Ian Burke and Chairman David Newbigging quit because bidder BIL International Ltd. won enough support to take control of the company.

Jersey-based Orb Estates, currently the subject of a Serious Fraud Office investigation, faces further controversy after the sale of its Thistle hotel portfolio to Allan Rankin, a Tyneside-based multi-millionaire. It has emerged that Rankin is a close business associate of an Orb adviser censured by the Takeover Panel for failing to disclose his links with Orb.
