Avian Flu Countries around the world are bracing themselves to deal with the spread of avian flu, which has broken away from its original "hotspot" of South East Asia into multiple European countries. Outbreaks of the latest H5N1 strain among birds were first spotted in Vietnam and Thailand in 2003. It spread to several other countries in the region, and has now established a foothold in western Turkey and Romania. WTO Secretary-General Francesco Frangiall says: “We must ensure that people are not deterred from travelling without good reason. Unnecessary scaremongering can cause a sharp drop in tourism that squeezes the economies, especially those of developing nations and the incomes of millions of workers in the global travel & tourism industry.”

Guest Satisfaction Revisited... Today's hotel guests... What do they need today? What might they need tomorrow? How will you keep them satisfied? Is satisfaction enough? What can you do to ensure they keep coming back to you time after time? The ability to answer these questions is more vital than ever in today’s competitive landscape. Estimates suggest that it is up to ten times more expensive to acquire a new customer than to retain an existing one. Building customer loyalty is not only the basis for repeat business, but also a means of broadening offerings, and cross-selling services. For a mature business customer retention is the key to increased profits.
