DELOITTE DELOITTE TH&L (FRANCE) - DOCUMENTS |
|
 |
French Hotel Industry Performances - January 2012 2012 marks the transitional period between the new and old hotel norms. To avoid any misinterpretation, we have chosen to segment our statistics by positioning, rather than category. We have divided the market into five groups: Luxury, Upscale, Midscale, Budget and Super Budget.

French Hotel Industry Performances - December 2011 After December 2011 was marked by a slowdown in growth for the budget and 2 star sectors. In the 3 star market, the pattern varied throughout France, with Paris and a number of regional towns resisting well and others experiencing sharp declines in occupancy. However, average RevPAR did grow in this category. In the 4 star market, the upswing continued.

French Hotel Industry Performances - November 2011 After October’s dip, performances in Paris began improving again, with hotels
achieving high growth rates – RevPAR rose by an average of 13% in the capital. In
particular, the Batimat trade show attracted 352 000 visitors and contributed to these
positive results. Not to be outdone, upscale hotels on the Côte d’Azur recorded
RevPAR growth of almost 29%. The G20 summit held in Cannes at the beginning of
November enabled hoteliers to maximize average rates.

French Hotel Industry Performances (September 2011) | Deloitte After a sunny summer, growth continued in September, with the return of business guests. In regional France, upscale hotels (4 and 5 star) played their game well with a rise in rooms revenue of over +8%. Other categories also saw RevPAR progress, although to a lesser extent.

 |
French Hotel Industry Performances (April 2011) | Deloitte Following a somewhat inconsistent month of March, the French hotel industry picked up in April, recording significant increases in performances. However, these encouraging results should be put in perspective: April 2010 saw the Icelandic volcano disturbing air traffic – an event that affected the hotel industry to a certain extent, notably through the curbing of trips by overseas visitors and corporate clients. As a result, April 2011 was more favorable for airline traffic (French airports recorded spectacular growth in traffic: +28% in Parisian airports, for instance), and consequently, for the hotel industry, too.

 |
French Hotel Industry Performances (February 2011) | Deloitte The growth observed in January was confirmed in February. Business destinations, particularly in regional France, benefitted from the staggering of winter school holidays, unlike in 2010. In 2011, school holiday periods in regional France fell in February and March, rather than purely in February, as was the case last year. Given this, business guests were more present in February of this year.

Deloitte - French Hotel Industry Performances (January 2011) An encouraging start to the year. The new year saw hoteliers hit the ground running. In Paris and throughout France, RevPAR increases in January were substantial, thanks to the combined effects of higher occupancy and average rates. However, these increases should be put in perspective. On the one hand, and with the exception of Paris and several large regional cities, business activity remained modest, with occupancy not quite hitting the 50% mark in the upscale and midscale segments. On the other hand, economic recovery in January 2010 had not yet begun, with year-on-year hotel performances significantly decreasing, even.

French Hotel Industry Performances | December 2010 2010 ended with improved rooms revenue indicators. Four star hotels took the lead, recording growth of 8.3%. Although this does not make up for the losses recorded last year, it could mark the beginning of an upswing. Compared with 2009, the 3 star category recorded significantly improved performances. This is even better news considering the midscale segment was one of the hardest hit last year. Despite these good results, budget and 2 star hotel year-end performances still remain rather fragile.

Deloitte - French Hotel Industry Performances (November 2010) Once October’s strikes were over and done with, trading picked up in November. However, in regional France, growth rates remained moderate, considering the sharp drops already recorded last year over the same period. As in October, 2 star hotels recorded mixed results. The Côte d’Azur market saw occupancy drop, whilst Paris
stagnated. Budget hotels performed better than in October when all indicators were down. Regional budget hotels posted rooms revenue growth of 1.5% in the south-west
and 3.4% in the south-east.
