Ten Motel 6 Properties to Participate in American Cancer Society's Guestroom Program

HOUSTON / Ten Motel 6 properties in the Houston area will be donating free guest rooms to cancer patients and their families, in town for treatment, through a special program sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society's Guestroom Program provides temporary housing for cancer patients and their families who travel to Houston for treatment. The program exists in Texas and throughout the country.

The room nights are donated based on availability. If there are no rooms available, patients and their families will be able to obtain discounted medical rates at Motel 6 properties.

"We wanted to pitch in and help and felt that by providing these rooms, we can take at least some of the burden off cancer patients and their loved ones who are in Houston temporarily," said Bob Ogle, Motel 6's Senior Area Manager for the Houston area.

Although other lodging chains participate in the program, Motel 6 has the largest concentration of properties of any chain in the Houston area, according to Deanna Lopez, patient services advocate for the American Cancer Society's Houston Metro Program. The Houston Motel 6 properties are located in the following general vicinities: Southwest, ClearLake, Hobby Airport, Northwest, Astrodome, Baytown, Katy, Jersey Village, Spring, and West.

"Our request for housing has recently doubled," Lopez said. " This generous offer from Motel 6 gives patients some reassurance that there will always be a friendly place to house them when they come here. And, these free rooms mean so much to cancer patients coming to Houston, who are already faced with a large financial burden for their various treatments."

All motel room arrangements must go through the American Cancer Society's Houston Metro office. For more information, please call 713/706-5654.

Motel 6's properties offer free local phone calls and no long distance access charges, free morning coffee, 24-hour-a-day faxing service at the front desk, free HBO and ESPN, and remote-control television sets. Most properties also have pools, guest laundries, electronic door locks, and phones with dataports. With both company-owned and franchised properties all across the country, Dallas-based Motel 6 offers the best price of any national lodging chain. Motel 6 is owned by Accor, a leader in lodging, travel, and business services. Motel 6 is in the 13th year of its award-winning advertising campaign, featuring Tom Bodett and the famous tagline, "We'll leave the light on for you."
