LOUISVILLE, Ky.- -- Darwin Networks, a leading provider of high-speed Internet access and network solutions, recently increased its lead in the public Internet access kiosk market with the acquisition of Internet Terminal Machine's (ITM) entire kiosk portfolio. ITM is a San Francisco-based company that owned and operated Bay-area public Internet access kiosks in hotels, apartment complexes, office buildings and assorted public spaces.
The acquisition immediately gives Darwin Networks operating rights to all of ITM's pay-per-use kiosks and strengthens its presence in San Francisco, making the city the home of the second largest concentration of Darwin Networks kiosks. San Diego has more Darwin Networks kiosks than any other city.
"This important acquisition helps us meet the public's growing demand for Internet access anytime, anywhere," said Eric T. Wagner, president of Darwin Networks' Public Access Division. "With kiosks throughout the city of San Francisco, Darwin Networks expects to build an even more recognizable brand identity among public Internet access users."
Darwin Networks has placed over 600 public Internet kiosks throughout the United States. ITM's San Francisco kiosk users will soon add to the thousands of consumers who have logged more than 32 million user minutes on Darwin Networks' kiosks.
The company recently demonstrated its ability to bring the Internet to anyone, anywhere when it was selected to provide kiosks to over 100 Kampgrounds of America sites such as the Smokey Mountains, Mt. Rushmore, the Florida Everglades, Monterey Bay, Graceland and Niagara Falls, among others.
Darwin Networks entered the public Internet access business with the acquisition of iCom Network, Inc. The acquisition expanded the company's portfolio of high-speed Internet products and services to include public, pay-per-use Internet kiosks, kiosk network operations and management systems, public e-commerce solutions, and custom kiosk application software. Since then, Darwin Networks has expanded its user base by adding clients such as Marriott International, the Walt Disney Company, and Amtrak.
