RICHARDSON, Texas / April 3, 2001-- MobileStar Network Corporation, a leading broadband wireless Internet service provider, announced today that it will expand its network into 43 hotel properties owned by Fort Mitchell, Ky.-based Columbia Sussex Corporation. The deal will significantly expand the industry-leading MobileStar footprint.
"This significant partnership for MobileStar shows our dedication to aggressive expansion along the entire travel ribbon," said Laurie Livingston, vice president of site development for MobileStar. "When installation is complete in the Columbia Sussex properties, busy travelers will be able to wirelessly access the Internet or their corporate Intranet using the MobileStar network in more than 145 hotels across the nation, in addition to several thousand airport and retail locations."
Activation of MobileStar service in the properties will begin this fall. The 43 hotels are spread across 23 states, including seven that will experience MobileStar service for the first time - Alabama, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada and Wisconsin. These hotels include name brands such as Marriott, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Sheraton, Radisson, and Hilton.
MobileStar offers an unparalleled network for broadband, wireless Internet access and maintains the largest wireless footprint in the U.S. Currently more than 170 locations are in operation providing easy-to-use, reliable wireless Internet connectivity at speeds up to 50 times faster than typical dial-up modem connections and up to 100 times faster than other current wireless technologies. The MobileStar network utilizes both WLAN technologies - Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b, direct sequence) and OpenAir (frequency hopping) and is accessible in frequently traveled business locations. Current locations include airports, American Airlines Admirals Clubs, hotels, conference centers, and restaurants. MobileStar plans to expand its footprint to include Starbucks coffeehouse locations nationwide.
