In a statement released to NBTA's membership, McInerney stated: "When I joined NBTA in 1997, the travel management profession was coming into the recognition that it had deserved for so long. Simultaneous with that success, NBTA was also beginning a solid pattern of growth and a period of expansion designed to respond to the changing needs of travel management professionals. I, like many of you, have done a great deal of reflection over the past few months. And, while I have cherished each day of the five years that I have been with you, I have been offered opportunities that I can only pursue by concluding my professional relationship with the fine organization that is NBTA. With the knowledge that the organization is in its strongest financial position ever, with a membership that has and continues to grow, and that travel management professionals are being recognized for the contributions they make daily to corporate America and the broader economy, I feel now is the right time to pursue those opportunities that have been extended to me."

In announcing McInerney's decision, Kevin Iwamoto, President, NBTA shared, "Marianne has been an integral part of this organization's new direction. She has managed our organization to its strongest point and has created a management team of talented professionals. Together they set the stage for our continued success. We will miss her contributions to our organization, our profession and our industry."

McInerney's resignation is effective immediately. NBTA's Board of Directors plans to announce a search process to fill the position in the near future.
