No frills on a cheap night - EasyHotel to offer 'capsule' rooms in London for just £5 a night

It may may claim to be a hotel room but it will offer fewer of the creature comforts - and less space - than a broom cupboard. But with prices starting from just £5 a night in the heart of London, the guests are unlikely to complain. The room is one of 25 in what will be London's closest equivalent to Tokyo's "capsule hotels", though there will at least be space to stand up.

Easyhotel: visitors to London will be able to enjoy minimal creature comforts at a wallet-friendly price

Latest designs for easyHotel rooms (updated 29.01.04)

easyHotel will represent the easyGroup entry into the budget hotel sector and will be found in the centre of international cities. Customers will book their rooms at www.easyHotel.com with a credit card on the basis of the earlier you book, the less you pay and periods of high demand will cost more than less popular periods. For clarity, the working title of this project used to be easyDorm, but easyHotel was finally chosen as the name as both the sleeping and bathroom facilities are private. The word 'dorm' implied shared facilities.

The first easyHotel will open in 2004 in Lexham Gardens, London W8, just off the Cromwell Road. This is subject to completion of the contract with the vendors of the property which is expected to take place in the next couple of weeks.

easyHotel will concentrate on the core competence of providing accommodation and will not provide restaurant and other services. House keeping services, including bedding and toiletries will be an optional extra. Bring your own or easyHotel will provide these services at a price.

Each room has a shower unit, a lavatory and a wash basin. Each room will contain at least one double bed at will measure at least 90 square feet. Due to the special construction and materials used, the easyHotel rooms will be much cheaper to manufacture and maintain and easier to clean.

Once the pilot hotel is up and running and the concept has been fine-tuned, easyHotel will be available to franchisees on a worldwide basis.

Any new developments and information on this company will be announced first on this website and at www.easy.com.
