TORONTO, ON, Delta Hotels was recognized for excellence in human resources development by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) at its annual leadership summit, held earlier this week in Whitehorse, Yukon.

“We’re proud to receive this recognition of our HR practices by our industry colleagues,” said John Pye, president of Delta Hotels. “This award confirms our long-held belief that by investing in our employees, Delta Hotels will attract and retain some of the brightest talents.”

Delta Hotels is committed to developing innovative practices and offering career development opportunities to its many employees. For example, employees can access a tuition fund that offsets the costs of external educational courses, or register for internal programs, including FastTrackers, Delta’s development program for senior management, established in association with Toronto’s Ryerson University. An individual development plan (IDP) is also set out for those seeking advancement.

Training and feedback are also a priority at Delta Hotels, as two of Delta’s employee service guarantees make clear. If a full- or part-time employee does not receive a minimum of 12 hours of job-related training each year, he or she receives one week’s pay. Delta also guarantees that annual development reviews will be completed within 30 days of an employees’ anniversary date—or the employee will receive one week’s pay.

The award from TIAC comes several weeks after the National Quality Institute (NQI), an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping Canada work better, cited Delta Hotels for its healthy workplace, awarding Canada’s leading hotel management company a Canada Award for Excellence (CAE). Delta also received a CAE award for quality in 2000.

Delta's corporate history began in 1962 when five partners purchased the Delport Inn, a 62-room hotel in Richmond, British Columbia. From this base, the Delta chain was born and its history has been one of growth, driven by innovation and a strong commitment to guest service and satisfaction. By 1970, Delta had become the leading hotel operator in British Columbia and from there Delta pursued an aggressive growth strategy.
