Beijing International Tourism Expo 2006 Geared for Greater Heights
Bigger, Better BITE 2006 Poised to Move and Shake Global Travel & Trade Industry for Third Consecutive Year
With only five months to go, Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE) 2006 has already secured 217 international exhibitors from more than 60 countries and regions taking up an impressive 85 percent of the exhibit halls. The third annual international tourism trade and consumer fair opens its doors in the Beijing Exhibition Centre from 22 to 24 June 2006 and is targeted to attract over 600 international and local participating companies.
Boasting a truly international representation, BITE 2006 has already received more than 60 percent repeat orders. Currently, in negotiation are 10 new participating countries namely Ethopia, Holland, Israel, Kenya, Slovenia, Mongolia, Spain, Tunisia, Switzerland and Tanzania. In addition, Greece will yet again be participating as Partner Country for BITE 2006 with the largest space take-up of 1,000 sqm.
BITE 2006 will see an increase of more than 65 percent of the total gross floor area to 25,000 sqm this year and is slated to move and shake the international travel industry with greater velocity. Once again the event targets another impressive turnout of more than 10,000 trade professionals and public coming from more than 60 countries and regions.
Under the Hosted Buyer Programme, exhibitors at BITE 2006 can expect to meet and interact with at least 100 top buyers from China and another 100 international hosted buyers. Since its recent launch, the programme has already received more than 150 international registrations from countries including Egypt, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Czech Republic, India, France, Germany, Greece, Russia and The United Kingdom for BITE 2006. The Hosted Buyers Programme is an initiative by the show organizers to business match-make potential buyers with exhibitors.
According to the World Trade Organization (WTO), China’s tourism and trade industry foreign visitor arrivals grew by 48 percent in 2004 compared with the previous year, with over 16 million more travelers. In addition, the Asia and Pacific region has seen an increase of 50 percent (34 million) in 2004. In other words, China's tourism growth counted for almost half the increase of the entire region.
Other indicative statistics released by Chinese National Tourism Administration (CNTA) also reflect China’s tourism boom with 109.04 million inbound tourist arrivals to the Chinese mainland in 2004, breaking the 100 million mark for the first time, earning the foreign exchange revenue up to US$25.74 billion. Besides inbound travel, outbound tourists from the Chinese mainland amounted to 28.85 million in 2004. In total, figures show that domestic tourism revenue stood at 471.1 billion yuan (US$58 billion) that year.
With the 2008 Beijing Olympics coming up in two years, China’s tourism industry is expected to heat up significantly, during which BITE 2006 will definitely be the vital link between the Chinese and the vibrant global travel and tourism industry in the years to come.
Officially organized by the Beijing Tourism Administration (BTA), BITE 2006 will be assisted by Beijing Relation Exhibition Co. Ltd. (BRE) in its recruitment of local tourism attractions while Singapore-based Conference & Exhibition Management Services Pte Ltd. (CEMS) will recruit international exhibitors.
