Madrid | Life at a hotel is dynamic and ever-changing. For the people who stay at the hotel, it is just a moment in their daily life, or a pleasant, restful experience during their free time. For the people who work there and provide services to the guests, it is a job which often has unknown dimensions, dealings with all sorts of people, from regular guests to foreigners on business trips and families who have never stayed at a hotel before. What type of situations are cleaning staff likely to find when they go into a room? What sort of requests are receptionists sometimes asked to deal with in the middle of the night? Some of these situations are shown in "Hotel" a new documentary that has started to be shown on the Dutch TV channel SBS and takes place in three of the hotels of NH Hotels in the Netherlands.
This programme is a unusual experience, the first of its kind worldwide. "Hotel" follows different workers with very different responsibilities as they go about their daily work. The cameras of the programme follow them as they work, getting their opinion on some of the aspects of their work, and in surprising, unknown situations they find themselves in every day.
The programme started to be broadcast on 17 March, on channel SBS 6, Mondays to Fridays at 6:30 pm. It takes place at three of the hotel chain's 32 hotels in the Netherlands. the NH Barbizon Palace, in the centre of Amsterdam; the NH Schiphol Airport, next to the biggest airport in the country; and the NH Jan Tabak, in the town of Bussum. During the month the programme has been running, it has gained a 10% share with 400,000 viewers per day. Also worthy of mention are the 2,000 hours of filming in order to be able to make the documentary series.

“NH Hoteles does not rest in its efforts to strengthen in brand name, not only at a general level but also with regard to the labour market”, explains Francisco Zinser, the Chief Operations Officer of NH Hoteles. "The chance to make a TV programme with SBS 6 about our business from the standpoint of our employees is a way of killing two birds with one stone. We are sure that we will create a product that many viewers will like, so that the Dutch public can see just how lovely it is to stay at a hotel in the NH Hoteles chain and how much fun it is to work in one of these hotels.
