McLean, Va. -- The past year has presented marketing professionals within the travel and hospitality industries with an array of challenges ranging from global economic instability to the evolving field of social media marketing. Always natural adapters, these marketing gurus have conveyed their bright ideas through numerous advertising, public relations and digital marketing campaigns and initiatives. The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) will pay homage to these individuals and recognize their inspired marketing efforts in the 54th annual HSMAI Adrian Awards competition.

HSMAI has officially opened the “Call for Entries,” for the 2010 awards. The early deadline for entries is Aug. 27, 2010 and the final deadline is Sept. 10, 2010.

“The Adrian Awards offers a prestigious industry-wide platform of recognition for the year’s top marketing achievers,” said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI, “It’s been a challenging year on many levels, so we are extremely proud to acknowledge the hard work of our peers as they promote the travel and tourism industry.”

The HSMAI Adrian Awards competition is comprised of multiple categories in three entry divisions: Advertising, Public Relations, and Digital Marketing. Additionally, top achievers will be considered for specialty awards: DEPARTURES Luxury Marketing Achievement Award and the TRAVELCLICK eMarketer of the Year.

HSMAI is also introducing the “Leader in Sustainable Tourism Award,” in conjunction with National Geographic Traveler. 2010 winners will join the ranks of industry heavy-hitters who have proven their creativity drives not only awareness but also bottom line. Included in these ranks are, The San Diego Zoo and its agency, M&C Saatchi, as 2009 “Best of Show” in advertising for creating a pair of computer-generated mammoths living the good life in Southern California circa 12,000 B.C. to launch a new exhibit at the Zoo. Additionally, the Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau won a 2009 “Best of Show” in the Web Marketing category for its “Life of a Brown Paper Bag” video and the 2009 Public Relations “Best of Show” winner, Tourism Queensland and its agency, Cummins Nitro, for the “Best Job in the World” campaign.

“We are very proud to have won Best in Show for our work with the San Diego Zoo,” said Huw Griffith, CEO North America, M&C Saatchi. “The Adrian Awards recognize how a simple idea, executed with a high degree of creativity, can surpass goals and grow brands regardless of difficulties in the market, non-profit budgets or a regional footprint. It’s creativity and results that count and we look forward to ongoing success with the San Diego Zoo for many years to come.”
