Between 1980-82, Delta added properties in Halifax, Saint John, Mississauga, Calgary and Whistler. Subsequently, the company moved its corporate office to Toronto from Vancouver in 1983. In 1986, Delta moved into the Quebec market with the opening of the Delta Montreal, and the American market with the opening of the Delta Orlando Resort. In 1987, Delta was purchased by Realstar Group of Toronto.
Throughout the 1980s, while much of the focus was on national expansion, Delta also began to concentrate on innovation. In 1984, Delta was one of the first hotel companies to offer a chain-wide family program and in-hotel children's creative centres.
In 1989, Delta added business centers to the hotels across the chain. Additional programs and services for business travellers now include Delta Privilege, the frequent guest recognition program, fully equipped in-room offices and Great Meetings Guaranteed. Delta was also the first hotel chain to offer the "One-minute check-in" guarantee and a toll-free 24 hour Concierge Service.
The 1990s were a time of rapid expansion, innovation and revitalization. Although in 1998 Delta Hotels was purchased by Canadian Pacific Hotels and Resort Inc., the Delta brand has continued to operate separately. 1999 proved to be a busy year as six Canadian Pacific hotels were transferred to the Delta brand and a new visual identity was unveiled for the first time in 30 years, featuring a new logo accompanied by the advertising tag line "Your room is ready."
2000 proved to be an award-winning year for Delta Hotels as Delta was awarded the Canada Awards for Excellence trophy and in January 2001, Delta was selected as the 12th Best Company to Work for in Canada by The Globe and Mail's Report on Business Magazine. 2000 was also a year focused on aggressive growth of Delta's resort portfolio with the announcement of numerous new properties. Additionally, Delta re-launched Delta Privilege and was the first hotel company to introduce a loyalty program for small business called Delta Privilege Blue.
Currently, Delta Hotels is the largest first class hotel company in Canada, operating over 37 hotels and resorts from Vancouver to St. John's. Delta's diverse portfolio of urban, airport and resort properties cater to business and leisure travellers. Since 1962, Delta has maintained industry-leading standards of excellence - offering a winning combination of service, value and comfort. Today, Delta stands on a strong platform of product, programs and dedicated employees moving towards continued growth and success in 2001.
