On average, a management position in a Dutch three, four or five star hotel comes with a monthly salary of € 3,300. Between 2002 and 2005, the salaries increased by 12.5%, or 4% per year. For 2006, a further increase of 2.5% is expected. Management positions in hotels range from department heads such as the Executive Housekeeper to the highest position of General Manager.
The monthly salary of a General Manager in a Dutch hotel is on average € 7,300. The benefits usually include a lease car and a gas pass. The value of the benefits is estimated at an average of € 22,500 per year. For many General Managers, December brought an additional incentive of € 18,000 on average; more than twice as high as in 2002. In some cases, the incentive amounted to more than four times the monthly salary. On average, the incentive was 66% of the maximum possible incentive. The incentive is usually dependent on the gross operating profit of the hotel. The occupancy of the Dutch hotels increased from 66.7% to 69.1% in 2005, which also will have resulted in higher profits.
Other well-paying positions in the Dutch Hotel Industry are Assistant General Manager, Executive Chef and Hotel Controller, which each come with a monthly salary of on average € 3,800 to € 3,900. These positions also merited high incentives in 2005, on average between € 5,000 and € 6,500.
