They only serve halal food, are alcohol free and feature women-only floors. But as new as the concept may be, developers of Islamic hotels are saying their brand of hospitality – where every aspect of management and function is religiously acquiescent – is on the rise. "UAE residents alone spend more than $4.9 million (Dh18m) on travel annually and the Islamic hotel product will be in high-demand, certainly reaching 10 per cent in the short-term," says Abdulla Mohamed Almulla, Chairman of Almulla Hospitality, whose parent company, Almulla Holdings, have recently announced plans to build 150 Islamic hotels worldwide by 2013 at the tune of $2 billion (Dh7.34bn).
