The Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts Sustainability Program has been officially launched at Swissôtel Kunshan in the morning of 22nd April by a tree planting activity. Stephen Fewell, General Manager of Swissôtel Kunshan, together with hotel management team members was planting two Sabina chinensises which symbolize green and vitality. Swissotel Kunshan also joined the Earth Day web site event and put Kunshan on the map with an online feed of the event.
"Protecting the environment is increasingly important to our team members, to our customers and the local communities. It's our responsibility to call on everyone around to protect our planet," says Stephen Fewell. "We firmly believe that successful business and corporate responsibility for sustainable development go hand-in-hand. "We will nurture the trees and monitor them as they prosper."
Furthermore Swissôtel Kunshan will call on all team members to take action in the 'Global Swissôtel Energy Saving Week' from May 18 to 31. A series of suggestion focusing on saving energy has been gathered from each department, such as using stairs instead of elevators, screen savers on computers to take effect after 5 minutes and standby after 10 minutes, use of black for a screen saver instead of animation, switching off air condition during room cleaning, closing curtains when leaving a room, using FSC certified paper as much as possible; etc. "Although all these are small things, it is the long term effects that will see a benefit not only for our planet, but also ourselves" an expression from one of the hotel's team members.
