Chicago, Illinois, Jonathan M. Tisch, chairman and CEO of Loews Hotels, is the 2009 recipient of the Arthur Landstreet Award, presented by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. Tisch received the award during the AH&LA Summer Summit in Chicago, during the AH&LA Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 24.

Named after the Tennessee hotelier who founded the Educational Institute, the Arthur Landstreet award is presented to an individual who has made a lasting impact on the quality of education and training in the hospitality industry.

Tisch is a national leader in the travel and tourism industry. He founded and service as chairman of the Travel Business Roundtable from 1995 to 2008, and now serves as chairman emeritus of the U.S. Travel Association, an organization formed by the merger of TBR with the Travel Industry Association in January 2009. Tisch served as an officer of the American Hotel & Lodging Association for five years, culminating in his chairmanship of the association in 1997. He was chairman of NYC & Company and of New York Rising, organizations dedicated to promotion tourism in New York City.

Tisch’s best-selling books, “The Power of We: Succeeding Through Partnerships” and “Chocolates on the Pillow Aren’t Enough: Reinventing the Customer Experience” share his leadership and service philosophies, not only in the hospitality industry, but in any organization.

Tisch has received numerous honors and accolades for his leadership, including “Hotel Person of the Year” by Travel Agent magazine, “CEO of the Year” by the Executive Council of New York, and one of the “Top Ten Most Influential Business Leaders” by Crain’s New York Business.

Established in 1953 as a nonprofit educational foundation of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Educational Institute’s mission is to support AH&LA by becoming the preferred provider to the lodging industry, hospitality schools, and related hospitality industries both domestically and internationally by developing and providing quality resources to train, educate, and certify hospitality professionals.
