2009 CHAE of the Year Honored at HFTP's Annual Convention & Tradeshow

Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) will honor Tony Kopp, CPA, CHAE, as the 2009 CHAE (Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive) of the Year during Thursday's General Session at HFTP's Annual Convention & Tradeshow. In its 26th year, the CHAE of the Year honors the individual that scored the highest on the CHAE certification exam in a given year. The Annual Convention & Tradeshow is September 16 – 19, 2009 at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.

Tony Kopp, CPA, CHAE, recently started his own tax and hospitality consulting practice in San Francisco, after many years at the CPA firm PKF. He provides tax services for individuals, non-profits and businesses in all forms. His consulting service draws from his experience both within the industry and as a CPA providing service to hotels, restaurants and clubs. The practice offers support in designing and implementing effective accounting procedures and controls using various computer systems, as well as due diligence and other acquisition related services.

Kopp grew up in the hotel industry first doing accounting at a hotel management company. Then he moved into working with hotels in receivership as a temporary controller focused on ‘fixing the mess' then hiring a replacement. He left the hotel industry to join PKF where he was the audit manager and was involved in internal control studies, due diligence and complex tax issues. Kopp also served on the PKF North American Network Hospitality Task Force.

Acknowledged throughout the industry, the CHAE certification elevates the professionalism of both the recipient and the industry by helping set standards for the field. Those who earn the CHAE designation demonstrate a high level of dedication to their profession. The first CHAE exam was taken in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1981. Since that time, more than 1,300 hospitality accountants from several countries have been certified. HFTP also administers the examination and awards the Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP).
