Edmonton’s TELUS World of Science Has Fun Down to a Science with Summer Exhibits

EDMONTON, AB - Edmonton Alberta's TELUS World of Science is the place to visit this summer for the entire family. Where else are can visitors be greeted by robots, create inventions, view outer space, learn hands-on about the environment, make cryogenic ice cream, watch world premiere IMAX movies and so much more?

The amazement starts right at the door when kids are greeted in the lobby by brand new additions to the staff, two new robots, The Professor and Commander Julie Rocket. Each awe-inspiring robot stands about a child's height and answers kids' questions on science, robotics and science centre events.

Donalda DaSilva Pelton, the centre's Advertising and Promotions Manager, says, "The kids really enjoy the robots and are intrigued, making us one of the most popular attractions in Alberta." "They're looking around for the person (inside the robot) and there isn't one!"

A general admission pass to the TELUS World of Science allows all day play at the centre's exhibit galleries as well as admission to the Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre. Premiering this summer is the fun, interactive "Inventor's Workshop", a place of tinkering and building where kids work alongside interpreters to tackle mysteries through invention. Mystery-solvers create air gliders, water transport systems and more. All materials are supplied and kids can take their inventions home.

The crowning jewels at the TELUS World of Science are the exhibit galleries, a must on the things to do in Edmonton checklist. This summer the amazing "Sultans of Science" allows visitors to step back in time to a showcase of breakthroughs made by scholars during the Golden Age of the Islamic World. See the first-ever flying machine, create optical illusions, explore the hidden doors and secrets of a four foot tall elephant clock, view telescopes, play vivid touch screen games and more.

"The Body Fantastic" exhibit at Edmonton's TELUS World of Science is a carnival of three-dimensional models showcasing how bodies work through awesome interactive displays. Visitors balance on a skateboard, use astronaut training systems and learn everything weird and wonderful about the body in the Gallery of the Gross.

"The Greens' House" is an environmental learning experience. Stroll through the greenhouse, see cool critters, take a spin on Mrs. Green's bicycle generator or see Mr. Green's new toy, the "Magic Planet", showing real time weather and seismic data. Visitors can also create their own weather broadcast.

There are also Exploration Stations with one-on-one interactive activities; a Science Demonstration Stage, exploring things like the science of cold and how to make soda pop fizz; and the Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre and IMAX Theatre, both with features for the whole family, including "Coral Reef Adventures" and "Horses."

Of course the TELUS World of Science's ever-popular, no-cost outdoor observatory is also open. See sunspots and flares in the day and stars, planets and constellations at night. The observatory has eight telescopes.

As Pelton sums up, at the TELUS World of Science, "People always come out with, 'Wow, what a fun place to be!' but they also say, 'I learned something.'
