WorldRes Selected as 1999 'Up & Comer' by Industry Standard; All Eyes Are on B2B E-Commerce Leader as Leisure Travel Industry Heats Up

SAN MATEO, Calif. / WorldRes, Inc.(TM) (www.worldres.com), the online hotel distribution network for leisure travel, continues to make its mark as the hottest emerging e-commerce business model in the leisure travel industry.

Today, the company announced its selection by The Industry Standard as one of 12 "Up and Coming" companies in the Internet economy.

WorldRes CEO Greg Jones attended The Industry Standard's Internet Summit 99, held July 17-20 at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel, Calif., where WorldRes was featured as one of 12 "Up and Coming" companies to present at the conference. Internet Summit 99, touted as a forum for exposing the most promising emerging e-commerce companies, attracted a top-tier group of Internet industry luminaries including Marc Andreesen of Netscape, Amazon.com's Jeff Bezos and Tim Koogle of Yahoo. The event was hosted by Bill Gurley and Mary Meeker, two of the industry's top Internet analysts.

"Internet Summit 99 was a huge success, bringing together a hand-picked group of the most influential Internet business leaders and visionaries," said John Battelle, president of The Industry Standard. "The Industry Standard is the voice of authority on the Internet economy, and the participation of high-calibre Internet leaders like WorldRes made our conference the premiere venue for peering into the future of business on the Web."

WorldRes was chosen as an "Up and Comer" based on its superior business-to-business solution for connecting hotel properties of all sizes with Web-based distribution partners to generate reservation-booking e-commerce.

WorldRes' growing network includes more than 9,000 hotel properties, from large chains such as Hilton and Choice American to independent inns and b&bs, and more than 900 distribution partners, including AOL, Lycos, Yahoo! and specialized activity- and destination-based sites. By connecting these sources of supply and demand with a state-of-the-art Internet booking engine, WorldRes has established its leadership in the exploding market of online leisure travel.

"It is an honor for WorldRes to be recognized by The Industry Standard as a leader in the e-commerce boom," commented Jones. "Back when WorldRes was formed, we saw that the Internet offered a huge opportunity for the largely untapped market of leisure travel. We invested heavily in technology while developing a unique and effective network of hotels and distribution partners. As a result, we have broadened the options for consumers by offering them more and better information and the ability to make real-time reservations through their favorite Web sites. Our selection as an 'Up and Comer' is further validation that we are on the right track. As online hotel bookings continue to grow, WorldRes will continue to lead the leisure market. "
