Bruce W. Mainzer Joins Hyatt as Vice President of Marketing

Role of Tom O'Toole, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Expands to Include Electronic Commerce

CHICAGO -- Bruce W. Mainzer, a 24-year travel industry marketing veteran, will be joining Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corporation as vice president of marketing, according to an announcement today by Thomas F. O'Toole, Hyatt's senior vice president of marketing.

Since 1997, Mainzer has served as senior vice president of marketing and sales for Vail Resorts, Inc. of Colorado. At Hyatt, he will be responsible for marketing activities including advertising, marketing communication, Gold Passport (Hyatt's frequent guest program), database marketing, promotional programs, partner marketing, marketing research, regional marketing, quality assurance and other marketing programs. Mainzer will report to O'Toole and join Hyatt on March 15, 2000.

Mainzer's appointment coincides with an expansion of O'Toole's responsibilities at Hyatt. O'Toole is now charged with leadership of Hyatt's rapidly expanding electronic commerce ventures, initiatives and activities. Hyatt's central reservations, revenue management, public relations and related functions continue to report to O'Toole. He will retain oversight of the marketing activities now being placed under Mainzer's responsibility.

"I have known Bruce for several years, and when my job expanded and there was a need for an additional executive to oversee various core marketing activities, I called him about joining Hyatt," said O'Toole. "Bruce provides an uncommon breadth of marketing experience and travel industry expertise that I am confident will advance Hyatt's marketing function," he added.

"I am delighted to be joining such a highly regarded marketing department in one of the top companies in the travel industry," said Mainzer. "I look forward to building upon the respected Hyatt brand and exploring new opportunities with this dynamic company," he added.

At Vail Resorts, Mainzer was responsible for marketing and sales for four ski resorts: Vail, Keystone, Beaver Creek and Breckenridge. He oversaw advertising, new media (web site development and marketing), market research, direct marketing, strategic alliances, international and domestic sales, central reservations, pricing, and revenue management.

Prior to his tenure at Vail Resorts, Mainzer served as executive vice president of marketing and planning for Carnival Airlines, where he was responsible for marketing and schedule planning for the 28 aircraft fleet regional carrier. Mainzer has also served as vice president of marketing for Norwegian Cruise Line, and from 1985 to 1994, he worked at United Airlines in various positions, where he served as director of market research and product development as well as leading United's yield management department.

Mainzer has also worked for the Metro North Commuter Railroad in New York City, as well as the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Chicago area's Regional Transportation Authority in several marketing and analyst positions.

Mainzer holds an MS in Transportation from Northwestern University and a BA in Urban Studies from Cornell University. He and his family will be relocating to the Chicago area.
