CAIS Internet Introduces 'CAIS Nationwide Provisioning Alliance' With Major Telecommunications Companies
Agreements with Bell Atlantic, BellSouth, GTE, SBC Communications and US West to Provide Accelerated Internet Broadband Access to CAIS Hotel and Apartment Properties
3 March 2000

Ardent Communications

WASHINGTON -- CAIS Internet [NASDAQ: CAIS] , a leading broadband solutions company, announced today that it has a series of strategic agreements with each of the major U.S. Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) in efforts to accommodate the volume of deployment of broadband access to CAIS customers nationwide - creating the CAIS "Nationwide Provisioning Alliance" (CNPA).

CAIS has established an unprecedented nationwide service cooperation with the regional telecommunications companies, and has enlisted them at the ground floor of the process to deploy broadband services to hotels and apartment buildings.

The alliance - which affects service delivery to more than 10,000 CAIS-contracted properties (including 1.3 million guest rooms and apartment homes nationwide) -- will help the company meet its demand to deploy innovative public area kiosk and in-building CAIS Ethernet multi-user networking solutions.

Business travelers and apartment residents will be able to receive greater bandwidth for online entertainment and communications, and will be able to find more hotels and apartments that provide easy access for emailing, business communications, news gathering, research, entertainment and e-commerce.

The alliance, made up of the major local telecommunications companies nationwide, streamlines the ordering and provisioning process for local loops or circuits managed by the regional telecommunications companies that will be instrumental in servicing CAIS hotels and multifamily communities that contract for CAIS's broadband Internet access solutions.

Having local loops or circuits from the regional telecommunications companies is fundamental to CAIS's system. The telecommunications companies' local loops connect the CAIS nationwide network to its local CAIS hotels and apartments end-users. With CNPA, CAIS has agreements to deliver the regional local loops off the CAIS network to CAIS customers nationwide.

CAIS will commit to use ILEC local loops, in exchange for commitments by each ILEC for circuit delivery to CAIS.

"The formation of this alliance is key to the scalability of our business," said Ulysses G. Auger, II, CEO of CAIS. "We are rolling out broadband connectivity to buildings on an unprecedented nationwide scale, and we need alliances that have the resources to be able to make and deliver on significant commitments. We are very pleased to be able to work with the nationwide leaders in local network facilities. CAIS represents an opportunity to provide a substantial roll-out of new facilities for each region."

One REIT comments, "United Dominion is committed to providing the residents of our 81,000 apartment homes with the fastest and easiest access to the Internet," said John McCann, chairman and CEO of United Dominion Realty Trust, Inc. "We chose CAIS because of our confidence in their technical expertise and excellent service. This new alliance reaffirms their continuing commitment to provide customers like us with the increasingly high level of service we demand."

CAIS Internet has master agreements with major hotel chains like Hilton Hotels, Bass Hotels, John Q. Hammons Hotels, Prime Hospitality, Carlson Worldwide Properties, Staybridge Suites by Holiday Inn, Cendant Corporation - including brands like Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Radisson, Embassy Suites, Doubletree Suites, Ramada, Hampton Inn, Crowne Plaza.

CAIS has contracts with apartment community real estate corporations like United Dominion, One Point Communications, Tarragon Realty, Mid-America Apartments, and Town and Country Trust. CAIS also has trials with all major hotel chains and real estate corporations.
