2002 IH/M&RS To Offer Depth Of Design-Related Resources

WHITE PLAINS, NY, Décor, the largest of the five new divisions debuting at the 2002 International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show® (IH/M&RS), will complement its 600 exhibitors with a design-related seminar program, display and awards competition, November 9-12, 2002, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

"The IH/M&RS provides a balance of resources from quality products and services to educational and networking opportunities," said Christian Falkenberg, show manager. "Décor will offer a comprehensive, stream-lined purchasing environment for design professionals in the hospitality industry."

Exhibitor Profile

Located on Levels 1 and 3 of the Javits Center, Décor houses some 600 suppliers of furniture, lighting, floor and wall coverings, artwork, furnishing and fixtures, meeting all of the needs of hospitality design professionals. The Hospitality Showcase, a special display located on Level 1, will highlight innovative first-time participants, displaying the hotel industry's newest design-related products and services. Notable companies participating in this sector include Ariel of France, Deco-Lav, McCourt Manufacturing and Sorrentino & Mariani.

Educational Programs

Within its educational programming, the IH/M&RS will offer a series of design-focused seminars. Topics will include the pros and cons of purchasing models; creating luxury in hotel design; and the use of design to meet the objectives of both hotel owners and guests.

Purchasing: The Great Debate
Saturday, November 9, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.

This panel moderated by Neil Locke, Neil Locke & Associates will debate the pros and cons of purchasing models with specific emphasis on the Agent Only vs. Dealer Model. Discussions will focus on which business model is best for each market segments to include: the acceptance of rebates and fees, product substitutions that go beyond value engineering, professionalism and disclosure of information and the consequences. Panelists include: Alan Benjamin, Benjamin West; Jennifer Ramsey, Ramsey Purchasing; Andrew Fay, The Gettys Group and Ann Kline, Cendant Supplier Services.

Rising Stars in Hospitality Design: How They Increase the Bottom Line

Great design appeals to the executive guest for exclusivity, style and functionality, while at the same time, meets the needs of the owner by dropping profit to the bottom line. Today's rising stars in hospitality design will show the increasing importance on creating a design that achieves the objectives of both the guest and owner. A design must be tailored to today's demanding business and leisure travelers, while simultaneously permitting the owner to raise room rates, occupancy rates and develop guest loyalty. Panelists include: James Looney, Looney & Associates; Marc Shapiro, McCluskey Design Group; Lia DiLeonardo, DiLeonardo International; Jason Schleich, Culpepper, McAuliffe & Meaders, Inc. and Lisa Roth, Montgomery Roth Architecture.

Gold Key Awards

The 2002 Gold Key Awards, which are presented by the IH/M&RS and sponsored by Hospitality Design and Hotel and Motel Management magazines, will recognize 20 finalists this year for excellence in seven design categories: Restaurants - Seating to 110; Restaurants - Seating Over 110; Guest Rooms; Suites; Lobby/Reception Area; Senior Living Facility; and Spa and Resort. Grand Prize Winners will be awarded in each category and a "Best of Show" Award will also be presented at the Breakfast.

Design professionals will have an opportunity to network at the 22nd Gold Key Awards, recognizing excellence in hospitality design, on Monday, November 11, from 7:30 - 10:00 a.m., at New York City's Waldorf=Astoria.
