PrinterOn Launches PrintSpots for Public Printing at Hotspots

Kitchener, ON, PrinterOn Corporation has introduced PrintSpots for public printing to connect those who need to print to printers at public hotspots. The secure, remote printing service conveniently connects users of wired or wireless laptops and wireless PDAs to printers found at Wi-Fi hotspots. PrintSpots () eliminates the need for users to find and install print drivers for printing on the go.

PrintSpots are ideal at hotspots where people have a need for convenient printing, such as at airports, convention centers, cafes or hotel business centers. For Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the initial investment is minimal and investment in additional hardware is not necessary in locations where printers already exist.

With the PrintSpots AutoFind feature, the nearest printer is automatically located for users without the need to type in a query. Users need only to log on to and the locator will find the nearest printer available. Further search functions allow the user to search by geographic location for additional printers, ensuring fast and accurate search results. Print jobs are then submitted without users having to configure their devices or load print drivers. The document owner can release print jobs from the printer securely using a privacy release code. Strong encryption ensures security of the print data.

Recent customer wins such as PrintSpots installations at Laptop Lanes in airport locations with Wayport, and at hotel business centers with Uniguest, have confirmed the leadership of PrinterOn in the fast-growing space of WLAN advanced services. Prospects of other public locations where

PrintSpots can be installed as a value-added service are Internet cafés, libraries, corporate conference rooms, cyber kiosks, convenience stores, airline lounges, RV campgrounds, convention centers, truck and travel centers, and school campuses.

Wayport, providers of high-speed Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) wireless and wired Internet access, has already equipped all 16 Laptop Lane airport business centers with PrintSpots. The printing service enables business travelers to securely print from Laptop Lane computers, their own laptops, wireless PDAs, cell phones or other mobile devices without having to install print drivers or other software. The Laptop Lane locations that have implemented PrinterOn’s mobile printing solutions are in nine major metropolitan airports which include Hartsfield Atlanta (three locations), Chicago O'Hare (two locations), Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle-Tacoma, New York LaGuardia, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (three locations), Oakland (two locations) and Philadelphia.

Uniguest, a leading supplier and servicing company of public Internet access workstations for hotels, apartment complexes and time-shares, has partnered with PrinterOn to offer PrintSpots with their Concierge Station, a self-service business center computer system. The Concierge Station system is a standard PC with custom security software that prevents users from modifying the system in any way while providing standard software applications. Functions of the Uniguest Concierge Station include standard business center computer programs like office programs, Internet browsing and no charge printing. For property owners, the Concierge Station allows for a custom user interface designed specifically for branding a particular user environment. This interface provides one-touch access to all functions as well as the most popular Web sites frequented by users. Adding PrintSpots to the Concierge Stations boosts simplification of printing for its customers. Currently, Uniguest is servicing over 130 systems in the U.S. and is in the process of retrofitting all installations with the PrintSpot service.
