MCLEAN, VA | Yo Adrian, the competition is fierce, but the winners will shine with Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards at the 15th annual HSMAI Adrian Awards Gala at the New York Marriott Marquis on Jan. 24, 2005. The show will be highlighted by guest host Judy Gold, a world-renown comedian, plus a star-studded cast of industry superstars recently named among the Top 25 Marketers by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), which polled hospitality industry executives worldwide.
A new professional production and staging will focus on the now famous Rocky boxing theme, which highlights the rise of the underdog to award-winning success. Producing the show for the second year in a row will be Anderson Hannant, a full-service event management and design company lead by Frederick Anderson, CEO and president.
“We are very pleased to have Frederick Anderson and his creative team back with us this year following rave reviews we received after his debut with HSMAI at the Adrian Awards ceremony a year ago,” said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president & CEO of HSMAI. “We are also excited to have Judy Gold as our guest host to liven up the presentations and entertain the audience,” he added.
Judy Gold is the saucy, gregarious host of HBO’s “At the Multiplex with Judy Gold” and is a regular fixture on Comedy Central’s “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn” and “Hollywood Squares.” She hosted the Comedy Central series “The 100 Greatest Comics of All Time” and is one of the stars of “The Bar Mitzvah Show” on the same network.
Judy Gold can often be seen gabbing with the girls on “The View” and reminiscing about the past and counting down the greatest videos and celebrity moments on “VH-1’s All Access.” Judy’s half-hour special “Comedy Central Presents: Judy Gold” continues to receive high ratings as does Comedy Central’s recent special “Tough Crowd Stands Up.”
Her one-person show about Jewish mothers, “G-d Doesn’t Pay Rent Here” debuted to rave reviews at The Empty Space Theatre in Seattle. Judy also co-starred in the off-Broadway production of “The Vagina Monologues.”
On television, Gold has appeared on a plethora of shows including “Sex & The City,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Law & Order,” “Law & Order, S.V.U.,” “The Drew Carey Show,” and “As The World Turns,” just to name a few. She also co-starred with Glenn Close in the CBS movie of the week, “The Ballad of Lucy Whipple.”
She won two Emmy Awards for writing and producing “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” and she won a Cable Ace award for her own HBO half-hour special. She was nominated twice for The American Comedy Award’s funniest female stand-up.
Bruce J. Himelstein, senior vice president, sales and marketing for The Ritz Carlton Hotel Corp. and Chairman of HSMAI Global, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the presentation of the prestigious Winthrop W. (Bud) Grice Award for public relations and the Albert E. Koehl Award for advertising and marketing excellence.
The 2004 recipients of these lifetime achievement honors are René A. Mack, of Weber Shandwick, who will receive the Winthrop W. (Bud) Grice Award and Gary Leopold, CHME, of ISM, who will be honored with the Koehl distinction.
The video production of the show, highlighted by the Platinum Awards and Koehl and Grice lifetime achievement tributes, will be created by Raw Media Network, a New York-based film company known for their cutting-edge television commercials.
For the second year in a row, the Adrian Awards show pays special tribute to the Platinum Award winners that have been chosen as the most outstanding entries with presentations by many of the Top 25 Marketers as selected by their hospitality industry peers and honored by HSMAI.
Also repeating for a second time will be the DEPARTURES Magazine Luxury Marketing Achievement Award, along with presentations for the HSMAI eMarketer of the Year, sponsored by TravelClick, and the HSMAI Foundation 2004 Scholarships, sponsored by American Express.
One of the highlights of the evening is the hour-and-a-half champagne networking reception in the Adrian Awards Gallery of Gold where winning entries are displayed. There also is a silent auction to benefit the HSMAI Foundation Scholarship Fund.
