Lipman to Address PATA Board on Climate Change
5 September 2007

Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)

How to respond to climate change will be the focus of the PATA Board of Directors and committee meetings in Bali, Indonesia, September 29-30.

UNWTO Assistant Secretary-General Mr Geoffrey Lipman (pictured) will set the tone for the meetings, September 29, by explaining to PATA Board and advisory committee members how and why the UNWTO and other major stakeholders intend to address climate change.

Mr Lipman will talk about the vital link between UNWTO's and PATA's activities, including the Second International Conference on Climate Change and Tourism in Davos, Switzerland this October, and PATA's CEO Challenge: Confronting Climate Change in Bangkok next April.

Mr Louis Thompson, Group Permaculturist and Director of Built Environment for Six Senses Hotels, Resorts & Spas, will then show how his company has taken practical steps to deal with climate change. Six Senses won the 2007 PATA Grand Award for the Environment.

PATA President and CEO Mr Peter de Jong said the theme-setting session would stimulate debate in the category and advisory committees on the most appropriate sector-specific and industry responses to climate change.

Board and committee members can still register.
