Positano, an idyllic cliffside village on southern Italy's Amalfi Coast, is the second most expensive beach destination in Europe this summer, according to a survey conducted by French travel website Allovoyages.fr.

The survey compared the cost of accommodation across all European holiday resorts during the month of August. The results were compiled based on average rates for the cheapest available double room in each destination. Only accommodation rated at least 3 stars and located within easy reach of a beach was considered.

With an average rate of €243 per night, Positano ranks as the 2nd priciest destination in Europe. Playa d'en Bossa, located on the Spanish island of Ibiza, emerged as the most expensive spot with an average rate of €254 per night for the most affordable double room.

Two other destinations in Italy also appear in the Top 10. The prestigious resort of Porto Cervo, nestled on the island of Sardinia, ranks as the 6th most expensive destination with an average of €224, while Gallipoli, a town on the west coast of the Salentina Peninsula in southern Italy, comes out in 9th position with an average rate of €213 per night.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive beach destinations in Europe this August. The prices shown reflect the average rate for each destination's cheapest available double room, in accommodation rated at least 3 stars, for the period spanning 1–31 August 2016.
