Marilyn Carlson Nelson Honored As 'Most Powerful Woman' In Travel Industry For 7th Consecutive Year
Travel Agent magazine also recognizes executives from Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Carlson Consumer Group, Radisson Seven Seas Cruises for their strategic initiatives

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - Marilyn Carlson Nelson, chairman and chief executive officer of Carlson Companies, remains the most powerful woman in the travel industry for the seventh consecutive year, according to Travel Agent magazine, which has released its annual list of influential women.

Travel Agent, the national news weekly magazine of the travel industry, is edited for travel agents and travel industry personnel.

The publication recognizes Nelson for championing federal legislation to help travel and tourism companies recover from the effects of the Sept. 11 tragedy, and reports her appointment by President George Bush to chair the National Women's Business Council. (Nelson will be sworn in to her new position on September 17.) In addition, the publication cites Nelson's meeting with President Bush as part of an economic forum in August to discuss the state of the national economy.

"It is both thrilling and humbling for me to be recognized as a leader in the travel industry," Nelson said. "Our industry has changed tremendously over the past year. But it has demonstrated its resilience and continues to add value for our customers who rely on the industry's experience and technological advancements."

Besides Nelson, three other Carlson Companies executives are named among the most powerful women in travel singled out by the magazine.

Kathy Hollenhorst is executive vice president of customer relationship management for the Carlson Consumer Group. She is recognized for building the customer relationship-management function in the consumer businesses of Carlson Companies. Her responsibilities also include the Look to Book program, the travel industry's first and only patented online interactive travel consultant frequency program. It allows individual travel consultants to automatically and electronically accumulate award points when they book rooms at any Carlson-branded hotel. The program is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. In 2001, Travel Agent also recognized Hollenhorst's work as vice president of Marketing for Radisson Hotels & Resorts.

Donna Remillard is vice president of marketing for Radisson Seven Seas Cruises (RSCC). She is recognized for overseeing the marketing programs of RSSC and launching a marketing campaign to introduce the cruise line's new Seven Seas Voyager to agents and clients. The ship is scheduled for delivery in 2003. In 2001, the publication also recognized Remillard for being at the forefront of the cruise line's fleet expansion.

Debbie Westlake is vice president of shared services for Carson Wagonlit Travel, North America. She is recognized for overseeing the centralized shared services of all operations and support functions to ensure efficiency, control costs and maximize revenues. She received a 2002 Carlson chairman's achievement award for leading a crisis management team after Sept. 11, directing operations hour-by-hour.
