The 16th annual edition of Travel and Tourism Works for America highlights the value, scope and interconnectedness of the nation's $740 billion travel industry. This popular 20-page report provides an overview of travel and tourism’s impact on the American economy, top-line statistics, enhanced charts, and travel sector information and projections. Whether measured through jobs, tax revenues, expenditures, visitor arrivals, world perception or quality of life, travel and tourism is one of America's greatest assets and largest exports. Practically every major industry sector is represented in the 2008 report.
This publication contains 28 separate presentations or white papers from TIA's 30th Marketing Outlook Forum. A series of economic, demographic, and marketing experts provide their analysis of the challenges facing the industry. Topics covered include: the economy; consumer and demographic trends, technology, branding and consumer marketing, air travel, the hotel market, attraction industry, auto travel, business travel, cruise travel, rail travel; cultural and historic tourism, packaged travel; restaurant industry, the rv market, and family travel. TIA began surveying consumers about their acceptance of new technologies for planning and purchasing travel in 1993. This annual tracking study of U.S. adults provides incidence of Internet use among the traveling population, as well as the size of the markets for online travel planning and online travel booking. Survey topics also include types of websites used for online travel planning and booking, types of travel planning done online, use of traditional travel information sources, prevalence of travel website subscribers, and influence of email marketing.
