The Warwick International Hotels Collection was founded in 1980 with the acquisition of magnificent traditional hotel, the Warwick in New York City. That grande dame, built by publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst in 1927 as a posh residence for his friends, has become the cornerstone-and the namesake-of a portfolio of hotels that now numbers 32 around the world. Many of Warwick properties are rich in history. The Westminster in Paris was built in the mid-19th century and has hosted innumerable princes, politicos and (real) prima donnas. The Warwick Regis in San Francisco is a landmark dating back to 1911. The Grand Hotel in Waterloo, Belgium incorporated the dramatic vaulted ceilings of a 180-year-old sugar refinery into the hotel plan; the graceful arches are now the focal point of the brasserie.
