Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts signed a management agreement for Mövenpick Resort & Spa Kuredhivaru Maldives, the hotel group"s first resort in the Maldives. The planned 105-unit resort on the remote Kuredhivaru Island in the Noonu Atoll will open during the second quarter of 2018.

The resort will have 33 beach villas and 72 over-water villas. It will be one of the few ultra-exclusive properties in the area. Many of the surrounding islands are still uninhabited.

"It"s no secret that the Maldives is a much-sought-after holiday destination that is still increasing in popularity," Andrew Langdon, CDO and SVP, Asia, said in a statement.

Development in the remote Maldives has been steadily growing in the past few months. This January, Dream Hotel Group signed two hotels opening in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

The 80-villa Chatwal Maaga Maldives on the North Ari Atoll will be the company"s second Chatwal collection luxury hotel. The 500-villa Dream Gasveli Maldives will span across three islands in Meemu Atoll, making it the largest fully-integrated resort ever developed in the Indian Ocean.

The Mövenpick Resort & Spa Kuredhivaru Maldives will have a comprehensive dive center, a beach sports activity center, a guest-only super-yacht, a small scale marine research center and private marina. Wellness and recreational facilities will include a spa, a yoga pavilion, a state of the art gym, a water sports center and volleyball and tennis courts.

The First Marine National Park in the Maldives and the Christmas Tree Rock and Orimas Thila dive sites are nearby and accessible by boat.
