Sea Island, a Forbes Five-Star resort on the coast of Georgia, announces the opening of key components of its $25+ million enhancement program at The Lodge at Sea Island, including six new guest cottages, an 18-hole putting course, an oceanfront pool and pool house, an expanded driving range tee, and a new putting green and short game area. Work on these additions began in December 2017 and debuted during the week of the RSM Classic, an official PGA TOUR event held annually at Sea Island Golf Club.

Built on the western side of The Lodge, the six new guest cottages offer a total of 14 new bedrooms with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, ideal for golf groups, corporate groups, couples or multi-generational families. Five of the cottages feature two bedrooms and a living room, and one larger cottage features four bedrooms and a living room. Wide plank hardwood floors, beams, iron lighting and fireplaces create a cozy atmosphere in the living spaces, and bedrooms are adorned with elegant furnishings and charming details including paintings by local artists, custom framed television cabinets, and white marble bathrooms. As with all other accommodations at The Lodge, guests in the cottages will have personal butler service.

Designed by Love Golf Design, a golf course architecture firm founded by Sea Islands own Davis Love III and his brother Mark, the new 18-hole Driftwood putting course on the ocean side of The Lodge opened in summer 2018 and provides a new dimension to the golf experience during the day and evening, perfect for both golfers and non-golfers alike.

To further enhance the guest experience off the course, Sea Island has added an oceanfront pool and pool house that embodies the look and feel of The Lodge, with double fireplaces, a wrap-around porch, food and beverage service, and indoor and outdoor event space.

As part of the next phase of the enhancement program, Sea Island will unveil an all-new 17,000 square-foot Golf Performance Center in early 2019. This state-of-the-art facility will replace the resorts existing Golf Performance Center, widely recognized as one of the finest golf centers in the country. The new facility will feature industry-leading technology, six instruction and club fitting bays, a putting studio designed by world-renowned putting instructor Phil Kenyon who serves as the Director of Putting Instruction at Sea Island a full-service golf club workshop, fitness center with locker rooms, spacious retail area, and indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces.

Additionally, in December 2018, Love Golf Design will embark on a full redesign of Sea Islands Plantation Course, which along with the signature Seaside Course serves as the site of the annual RSM Classic. The Loves intend to draw on the history of the course, using classical architectural features and historical hardscape and landscape elements. They will create new and interesting strategic elements while retaining the courses character and routing, passed on by previous architects, beginning with Walter Travis original 1928 design of the golf clubs first nine holes. The Plantation Course is expected to reopen in October 2019, ahead of the RSM Classic.

These enhancements come on the heels of the completion of three new guest rooms with adjoining parlor in The Lodges main building, along with an expansion of the Trophy Room, a special event space that celebrates Sea Islands rich golf history through unique memorabilia.

This is another very exciting time at Sea Island, said Scott Steilen, President and CEO of Sea Island. Rather than resting on our laurels of being consistently ranked among the top hotels in the country, we are taking these steps to transform the overall experience and expand the appeal of The Lodge. When combined with the additional rec recreational amenities and access to all that Sea Island has to offer, we believe The Lodge will become an unequaled destination for a luxury golf experience or couples getaway.

Reminiscent of an English manor, The Lodge at Sea Island exudes warm Southern charm and hospitality. The intimate boutique hotel, now with 57 rooms, has received top accolades including twice being named the #1 hotel in the country by U.S. News & World Report, and receiving the Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond awards since its opening in 2001.
