Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa — Photo by Marriott

Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, situated on 23 oceanfront acres at iconic Pu'u Keka'a (Black Rock) on Ka'anapali Beach, unveiled a multimillion-dollar transformation of its lobby, including a new expansive open-air lanai, lounge, reception area and The Sandbar, Ka'anapali's only lobby bar. The resort also debuted an ohana (family) game room as part of the second phase of the resort's renovation, following a complete refresh of all guestrooms and suites.

With panoramic ocean views from the adjacent lobby lounge and open-air lanai, The Sandbar is the perfect destination for creative beverages, local bites, and live entertainment. Craft cocktails are infused with island flavors, like the signature Sandbar Mai Tai, with Oahu's Kohana rum, macadamia nut syrup, and fresh squeezed pineapple and orange juices, and Plunge, made with coconut liqueur, dark rum, fresh strawberries, coconut, and bruleed banana. A curated menu of pupu (appetizers) are ideal for sharing, including the i'a ekolu, or fish three ways, featuring snapper poisson cru, ahi poke, and mahi ceviche served with taro and sweet potato chips; Kamuela tomato and mango salad with goat cheese and black lava Hawaiian sea salt; and hurricane spicy tuna poke cones. The mea 'ono ekolu, or dessert three ways, features a haupia float, pineapple cheesecake and "taro"misu. The Sandbar's morning service offers specialty coffees, breakfast bites, and signature housemade pastries like liliko'i caramel cinnamon rolls, toasted coconut ube scones, mango bread with liliko'i lavender butter and poha berry danishes.

The fresh design and décor of the new lounge, reception area, open-air lanai, and The Sandbar blends soothing coastal shades of blue, gray, and tan with textural accents of wood and rock to create a calm, inviting space that plays off the island's natural environment. Conceptualized by AHL, formally Architects Hawaii Limited, the 4,223-square-foot open concept floorplan brings the outdoors in, while emphasizing Sheraton's brand focus "where the world comes together" by creating a central gathering place for guests to socialize and relax. Comfortable seating arrangements with plush sofas and rocking chairs lend to lingering while enjoying ocean and resort views along with Lanai and Molokai in the distance.

At the new ocean-themed game room on the lower lobby level, guests of all ages can lounge while watching a movie, playing a video game or competing in a friendly round of foosball or shuffleboard. A cozy outdoor area offers corn hole games and teepees for keiki (kids) to play in.

In July 2018, Sheraton Maui completed a $26.5 million renovation of its 508 guestrooms and suites, 83 percent of which feature an ocean view. The new guestroom design blends past with present, honoring the history and sense of place found at Pu'u Keka'a while modernizing the living and bathroom spaces with timeless furnishings, textiles, décor, and artwork curated by native Hawaii artist Kristie Fujiyama Kosmides. Colors and textures utilized throughout the resort's six buildings are inspired by the culture and island landscapes of Maui, Lanai and Molokai.
