Jan Smits has been appointed Regional Managing Director Southern Asia, Japan, Korea and the Pacific at InterContinental Hotels Group in Singapore
Jan has more than 20 years of industry experience, including successful stints in several regional roles, and across various countries such as India, Australia and Malaysia. Prior to taking on this role in 2004, Jan was the Group's Regional Vice President of Operations, for Australia and Papua New Guinea. In his extensive hotel industry career, he has undertaken a wide variety of projects and responsibilities, including the management of hotel openings, mergers and acquisitions and major refurbishments. Before joining IHG in 2002, Jan was Area General Manager with Southern Pacific Hotels Corporation. He was also Director of Operations for Rydges Hotels & Resorts, overseeing development, operations, and F&B concept design, as well as contributing to hotel openings the Middle East, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Thailand and Australia. Jan studied at Victoria University and started his career with Southern Pacific Hotels Corporation in 1981.
