Christian Metzner has been appointed General Manager at The Astor Hotel (Starwood’s Luxury Collection) in Tianjin
Mr. Metzner was previously Hotel Manager at The Westin Tianjin, having first joined its pre-opening team as Director of Sales and Marketing three years ago. Mr. Metzner has more than 15 years of senior hospitality industry management experience to the iconic 149-year old landmark in Tianjin’s financial and business district. Opened in 1863, The Astor witnessed numerous political and historical dramas of a bygone era for China – including revolutionary leader Dr Sun Yat Sen commanding his forces from the hotel, and ‘Last Emperor’ Pu Yi and Empress Wan Rong dancing in the ballroom. With 152 rooms and suites in both colonial and contemporary style, the hotel was restored to its former glory with complete renovation in 2010.
