Peter C. Borer named 'Corporate Hotelier Of The World' at HOTELS Magazine
Since 1981, HOTELS has presented the "Hotelier of the World" award, considered by industry insiders as the most coveted and prestigious honour in the global hotel business. More than 60,000 readers in 150 countries vote for the annual awards, and winners are chosen based on the following criteria: establishing and maintaining the highest quality of service and operating standards; demonstrating responsible and skillful management; volunteering to serve both the industry at large and the communities in which they work; and supporting educational endeavours. Throughout his 32-year career with The Peninsula Hotels, Peter Borer has been instrumental in the vision and growth of the small luxury hotel company, spearheading brand-defining moments including the tower expansion of the flagship The Peninsula Hong Kong; the brand's first foray outside Asia with the opening of The Peninsula Beverly Hills; and the concepts and designs of new hotels including The Peninsula Tokyo, The Peninsula Shanghai and The Peninsula Paris, set to open in 2014. He has been the visionary behind major brand initiatives, including the iconic Peninsula Academy of cultural programmes and the continued development of industry-leading guest room technology, which can be seen in this year's completed US$58 million renovation of the brand's Hong Kong flagship. After acquiring extensive work experience in luxury hotels in Europe and the United States, Peter Borer joined The Peninsula Hotels in 1981 as Food & Beverage Manager at The Peninsula Manila, and after various tenures in Hong Kong and Bangkok, went on to become Director of Sales and Marketing and then Senior Vice President at the company's head office. He served for five years as General Manager of The Peninsula Hong Kong and assumed wider responsibility for the company's portfolio of Asian properties as Regional General Manager and Group General Manager. In 2004, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of The Peninsula Hotels and Executive Director of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited.
