Douglas S. NietholdWith its first and only president and CEO off to Boston, Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem has named Douglas S. Niethold its interim president. Niethold, of Easton, has been the vice president of finance for Sands since 2007 and has 25 years of experience at casinos in Atlantic City, Puerto Rico and Bethlehem, according to Julia Corwin, Sands Bethlehem spokeswoman. Niethold takes over in the wake of the departure last week of Robert DeSalvio, who left to help Wynn Resorts win a gambling license to set up a $1.5 billion casino outside Boston. DeSalvio had been the casino's CEO since before it opened in 2009. Despite opposition from people who believed the casino was wrong for Bethlehem, DeSalvio's honesty and community outreach made him a well-liked figure in the Bethlehem area.
