In this position, Ivan is responsible for formulating and implementing strategies to grow the hotel’s Restaurants, Bars & Events business. With over 28 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Ivan started his career as a waiter in 1986. In 1988, he joined Penang Mutiara Beach Resort, where he held several roles including being promoted to Assistant Food & Beverage Manager. In 1999, Ivan joined Shangri-La’s Golden Sands Resort as the Food & Beverage Manager before moving to Pan Pacific Pangkor Resort in 2003. He was Director of Food & Beverage at PARKROYAL Penang Resort from 2004 and at The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur from 2008. In 2009, Ivan took up the role of Food & Beverage Manager for Star Cruises of Genting Hong Kong where he managed its food and beverage outlets and casino food and beverage operations of Asia’s Mega Cruise Ship, SuperStar Virgo, SuperStar Libra and Star Pisces. Prior to joining PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur, Ivan was attached to Genting Grand of Resorts World Genting. During his tenure there, he was responsible for overseeing 12 food and beverage outlets, implementing major food and beverage promotions and conceptual change of several outlets. Throughout his career, Ivan has led his teams to win many international and national awards from Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards, Tourism Malaysia, Malaysian International Gourmet Festival, Malaysia Tatler, World Asia Media Millennium Award, The Sun and Flavours magazine. He was a member of the Executive and Steering committee which planned and implemented the Environmental Management System critical to Shangri-La’s Golden Sands Resort’s prestigious ISO14001 Environmental Management System Certification by SIRIM QAS Sdn Bhd in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, as well as Prime Minister of Malaysia’s Hibiscus Award in 2003. Ivan was also certified by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts as a Master Trainer and Food Safety Management Trainer in 2003. Ivan is also an experienced butler who has served many notable VIPs including the President of the People’s Republic of China, the Crown Prince of Brunei, the Prime Minister of Malta and the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of China. He had the privilege of being a member of Malaysia’s ‘Golden Team’ of 15 butlers who were chosen to represent Malaysia in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) Retreat in Langkawi in 1989.
