Michael Pace CLIFT San Francisco is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Pace as General Manager of the 100-year-old hotel, an original property from Morgans Hotel Group. Pace brings more than 20 years of international hotel experience and diverse operational expertise to his role. He began his management career in Italy at Forte Village Resort Hotel. Over the course of seven years, he worked a number of roles including assistant manager, front office manager, assistant general manager, and general manager at hotels in England, France, Germany, and his native country of Malta. Upon moving to California in 1996, he spent time working with several San Francisco hotels including InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco, Kimpton Hotels, W Hotel San Francisco, and most recently, the Hotel Adagio. While at Kimpton, Pace co-created and launched the “Earthcare” initiative, which quickly became one of the leading environmental programs in the hospitality industry. During his tenure, he was twice the recipient of the “Most Creative GM” award for all Kimpton Hotels. While General Manager at W San Francisco, Pace was awarded Starwood’s Sustainability Leader in 2010 recognizing his efforts in helping the hotel become the 7th property worldwide to achieve LEED EB Silver status. He was also recognized as “Outstanding GM of the Year” and W San Francisco received the highest recorded employee satisfaction scores in the hotel’s history, under his direction. With a passion for hospitality and serving others, Pace devotes his time and efforts in the areas of sustainability, mentorship, and guest speaking. He currently serves as president for the Hotel & Restaurant Foundation where he oversees the granting of over $150,000 a year in scholarships throughout California, director on the board for the California Hotel and Lodging Association and the Hotel Council of San Francisco, as well as serving as an advisory board member for City Car Share and San Francisco State University.
