Kristin LamoureuxThe NYU School of Professional Studies (sps.nyu.edu) has named Kristin Lamoureux, PhD, as the new associate dean and a clinical associate professor of the School’s Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism, one of the world’s leading academic centers for undergraduate and graduate studies, applied research, and career advancement programs in the industry. Dr. Lamoureux’s appointment is effective beginning December 1, 2015. A noted scholar, specializing in tourism and economic development, Dr. Lamoureux has been a distinguished and accomplished expert in professional and academic education for nearly 20 years. Most recently, she served as the executive director of the George Washington University (GW) International Institute of Tourism Studies (IITS) and as an assistant research professor of Tourism and Business Management in the GW School of Business. Under her leadership, IITS has grown to become a renowned tourism research center that plays a prominent role in tourism professional development, international development, curriculum development, and academic research. Dr. Lamoureux has been involved in many tourism projects in developed and developing countries including in the U.S., Jordan, Honduras, Belize, Egypt, Mali, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Bulgaria, and Spain. She also has served as a consultant for the U.S. Department of the Interior, the U.S. National Park Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the U.S. Agency for International Development, The World Bank, the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the International Ecotourism Society, and Conservation International. Active in the professional hospitality and tourism community, Dr. Lamoureux has served on several advisory boards including the Destination Marketing Association International’s Destination Marketing Accreditation Program and the Sustainable Travel International Board of Regents’ Educational Programs, among others. She also has served as an advisor to the Adventure Travel Trade Association and the American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association. Dr. Lamoureux is often asked to share her knowledge as an expert commentator and has been quoted by numerous media outlets including CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Time, Conde Nast Traveler, The Globe and Mail, and The Washington Times. Dr. Lamoureux earned a BS in Travel and Tourism Management from Johnson and Wales University, and a Master of Tourism Administration and a PhD in Business Administration with a focus on Strategic Planning and Tourism Development from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. She also graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Catόlica del Ecuador with an associate’s degree in tourism and business.
