Carol MotleyThe Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s Washington, D.C., chapter today announced the appointment of Carol Motley, a 22-year hospitality industry veteran, to its advisory board. Motley is director of convention sales for Destination DC, where she develops and executes sales policies and programs to promote patronage of Washington, D.C., hotels. She will lend her professional experience and thought leadership to the chapter, which serves the hospitality industry throughout the Washington metro area. “Carol brings more than two decades of experience as a talented sales leader,” said Jennifer Hill, HSMAI Washington DC Chapter chairwoman and Highgate regional director, revenue & distribution. “Her proven leadership expertise will be pivotal in promoting HSMAI’s mission, to drive business to area hotels and to their partners.” From 2011 to 2015, Motley was senior national account executive for Visit Orlando, responsible for placing citywide business in the Orange County Convention Center. She was senior sales manager for the Hyatt Regency Chicago from 2005 to 2011, responsible for soliciting and generating key citywide business accounts; director of sales for the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau from 1999 to 2004; and national sales manager for the Baltimore Convention Center from 1996 to 1999. She began her hospitality career with Doubletree Suites as a front desk clerk and also served as front desk supervisor and sales manager. A Washington native, Motley earned a bachelor of arts degree in rhetoric and communication studies with a concentration in business at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. She is a member of Professional Convention Management Association.
