Oriol Montal

The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Oriol Montal as General Manager. A seasoned hotelier with over 20 years of experience, he has arrived on the island direct from a four-year tenure as General Manager for JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa.

Oriol is a multi-lingual Spanish national and a graduate from the prestigious Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne in Switzerland. With a solid background in hospitality services, he first entered the workplace in 1994 as Assistant Food & Beverage Manager with Hotel Barcelona Sants. Upon joining The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Arts in Barcelona, Oriol remained in his hometown for several more years fine-tuning his expertise across several different departments. He then relocated to The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai as Executive Assistant Manager Rooms Division.

Oriol moved into a more senior role as Hotel Manager for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Arts, Barcelona Spain in 2003. There he oversaw a complete renovation project while the property remained fully operational. This was later followed by a succession of appointments as General Manager for leading golf and spa resorts with The Ritz-Carlton brand in the exotic destination of Sintra, Portugal and Tenerife, Spain. In 2011, Oriol assumed the role of General Manager at The Ritz-Carlton Osaka, in Japan, which has the brand's largest Food & Beverage operation worldwide, including two Michelin-starred restaurants.

Throughout his extensive career with The Ritz-Carlton brand, Oriol was instrumental in the opening of four hotels in Puerto Rico, Germany, Turkey and the USA between 1998 and 2002. Upon joining the Marriott brand as General Manager for JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, Oriol successfully repositioned the property as a leading family resort in Asia. His impeccable management skills were acknowledged with a Marriott Leadership Award 2015 Asia Pacific.

Having assumed responsibility for The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali and the adjacent Bali International Convention Centre, Oriol now faces the challenge of maintaining award-winning status on a regional and global level.

Describing his personal management style as being a long-term leader, Oriol endeavors to understand and respect local customs. He likes to maintain a visible presence within the hotel at all times by connecting with associates and guests.

Oriol is joined by his wife and two young daughters. As a passionate traveler and scuba diver, he is looking forward to experiencing all that Bali has to offer, including its unique cultural traditions.
