Angelina Chua

Angelina Chua has been appointed general manager at the 128-bedroom, four-AA-star Georgian house Sopwell House hotel and spa in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

She has stepped down from the hotel manager role at Stapleford Park, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, to replace Thomas Garlich, who has moved to Audley, a retirement village in Englefield Green, Surrey, as general manager.

Chua has worked in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, with positions in Asia, the Middle East and the United States. Positions have included corporate sales and event manager at the JW Marriott hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; restaurant manager at the Ritz-Carlton in Doha, Qatar; and director of restaurants at Marriott's Kaua'i Beach Club in Hawaii.

Located in a Georgian property, Sopwell House was once the country residence of Lord Mountbatten. It was converted into a hotel in 1969 and today belongs to AB Hotels, which has been headed by the Bejerano family for 30 years. It is a sister property to the Arch London hotel and a member of the Pride of Britain hotel consortium.
