Shakir Hussain

NorthPointe Hospitality Management, LLC has appointed Shakir Hussain as the general manager of Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant, located minutes from Charleston, S.C., one of the world's most celebrated cities. Mr. Hussain is responsible for the overall management and operations of the 158-room boutique hotel that opened in early July.

The seasoned hospitality industry veteran has spent more than 20 years working in top management positions at upscale hotels in the U.S. and abroad. Most recently, Mr. Hussain was the area director of operations for SMS Lodging in Miami, Fla., where he developed and managed four hotels and restaurants and oversaw nine properties. Prior to that, he spent several years as the general manager of Playa Largo Resort (Autograph Collection), a AAA 4-Diamond property, in Key Largo, Fla. In that role, he was responsible for the pre-opening development of the luxury destination resort, spa and residences and he oversaw the first Green Program in the Florida Keys.

Other positions in Mr. Hussain's impressive career include director of food and beverage for the Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, Fla.; vice president and general manager at Excelsior Hospitality; and trained at Waldorf-Astoria in NYC. He began his hospitality career with The Oberoi Group which owns and manages world-class hotels in seven countries.

Mr. Hussain has a master's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Cornell University School of Hotel Administration.

Operated by Atlanta-based NorthPointe Hospitality, Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant opened in early July and has 158 distinctively styled guestrooms (including seven suites); a full-service restaurant and bar (eliza's bar + kitchen); a resort-style oasis with pool, indoor/outdoor bar, cabanas, fire feature and sun chairs; yoga room; and complimentary self-parking.
