Michael Gaehler

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Gaehler as the general manager of Six Senses Uluwatu, Bali.

A seasoned professional, Michael brings more than 33 years of experience within the high-end hospitality sector, having recently completed a stint as general manager of the Oriental Residences Bangkok. He previously worked at Regent Hotels & Resorts, managing the group's hotels and resorts in Montenegro, Taiwan, China and Indonesia.

Michael began his hotel career as a chef in his home town of Zurich, Switzerland after graduating from the Swiss Hotel Management School Belvoirpark, transitioning to broader food and beverage roles at some of Europe's leading boutique hotels such as Villa il Tessoro in Tuscany, Hotel Le Vieux Manoir in Murten and Hotel Giardino in Ascona. He then moved to Asia and the Jia Causeway Bay in Hong Kong and GMH's The Chedi Chiang Mai, later assisting with the launch of GMH's Ananti Kumgang Mountain in North Korea, the country's first five-star resort.

Michael is an incorrigible dog lover, believing that every dog should have a chance to have a home and a family. His extensive travels have allowed him to explore and understand many cultures and their food, enticing him to find the best local markets with the freshest produce. His new role with Six Senses Uluwatu, Bali will give him the opportunity to add the colorful markets of Bali to his list together with the archipelago's diverse cuisine.

Michael has a passion for cooking whenever time allows, and being a true Swiss, he enjoys the occasional temptation of good cheese, wine and chocolate. His most inspired quote is from Peter Drucker: "Quality in a service or product is not what you put into it. It is what the customer gets out of it."
