Kurtz

Matt Kurtz pursued a career in hotels out of admiration for what, at its core, a hotel strives to provide: a hospitable experience people welcome and remember. As an Associate with HVS Houston, Matt brings experience ranging from asset management to revenue centers at residences, restaurants, and full-service hotels. Employing first-hand knowledge of hotel operations and analysis, proven HVS methodologies, and HVS Houston’s network of hotel experts, Matt works to give you conclusions about value and feasibility you can use to move your hotel ambitions forward.

Matt began his hotel career in Los Angeles as a front desk agent at Chateau Marmont, whose charm fed a passion for boutique hotels. Matt moved on to an internship at an east coast boutique, the Mondrian Soho hotel in New York City. He quickly rose to a management role, assisting with the opening of three new food and beverage operations at the hotel. He later developed the “Neighbors of Isola” marketing campaign to increase patronage from local businesses at the Mondrian. In graduate school, Matt developed a hotel investment analysis case study that established a best-use evaluation for the sale of a Manhattan hotel. Matt earned his BS in Public Policy, Planning, and Development, with a concentration in Real Estate Development, from the University of Southern California. He earned a Master of Science degree in Hospitality Industry Studies, with a concentration in Hospitality Finance, from New York University.

Matt has helped build homes in and around Los Angeles as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He loves travel, with Tel Aviv and Buenos Aires among his favorite cities. Matt’s favorite musicians include the Beatles, Roy Orbison, Curtis Mayfield, and Elvis Presley. He is currently learning the piano. A native of LA, Matt stays faithful to his home teams, the Lakers and Dodgers.
