DeFranco is a Professor and the Conrad N. Hilton Distinguished Chair of the Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership at the University of Houston, where she was the Associate Dean and Interim Dean for the College, and the Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies for the university. Her research areas are in hotel accounting, finance, and technology with over 200 refereed and non-refereed publications and seven published textbooks. Agnes is a past global president of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP), past treasurer of International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE), and past president for two honor societies at the university. She currently serves on the Global Finance Committee revising the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry and a special white paper task force producing key performance metrics for the club industry.
