Steve Newman

Dr. Steve Newman is Banyan Tree Group's Chief Sustainability Officer and the Managing Director of Banyan Tree Global Foundation, the Group's non-profit arm. A sustainability leader with 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors, Dr. Newman's environmental science background supports his passion for sustainability through problem solving, research, analytical and evaluative skills. He applies a science-based approach to target setting and impact measurement necessary for assurance and transparency. In his role, he embeds and cultivates sustainability culture and values in all business units, departments and close to 7,000 employees in Banyan Tree Group. He leads the formulation of strategy and frameworks, policy development, systems and standards to govern implementation, and audits to benchmark and transparently track impact in award-winning investor reports. As a creative and agile thinker, Dr. Newman unifies best practice and business needs in a scalable and sustainable approach to create shared value for stakeholders with positive impact towards Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets. Through the Banyan Tree Global Foundation, he directs funds to support projects that benefit the communities and environments at our locations in 23 countries, to deliver on our pursuit of business for good. Dr. Newman joined Banyan Tree Group in February 2015.
