It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the Smart Tourism in the Greater Bay Area Forum, which will be held in Hong Kong on May 21, 2021 in the premises of The School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM), the Mr and Mrs Chan Chak Fu Building, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The forum will be held both offline and online.

New technologies have been evolving very fast in the hospitality and tourism industry, which drive product innovations and connect various tourism stakeholders within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The GBA is now becoming a 'field of experiment' in cross-border integration and smart tourism development. Researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in the GBA are paying greater attention to smart tourism with a view to maximizing the socio-economic benefits of tourism and to enhancing the competitiveness of the region as an international destination.

To facilitate knowledge transfer and technology spillover within the GBA, it is important to understand the impacts that smart tourism will bring to the region, the new trends that may emerge from the continuous technological innovations and the support needed for the development of a robust smart tourism ecosystem. This Smart Tourism Forum aims to achieve these purposes.

Academic and industry speakers from the GBA will share their expertise and knowledge with participants of the forum. We believe that this forum will serve as an important bridge connecting research and practice in smart tourism development within the GBA. The forum is made possible by a close collaboration between The Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre of The School of Hotel and Tourism Management, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-sen University and the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies.

The forum is sponsored by the GBA University Alliance and organised by the Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre of the SHTM at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. We look forward to welcoming you to the forum both in Hong Kong and online!
