New York-based brewer Grimm Artisanal Ales has launched its first permanent brewery and taproom in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Locally based design firm Tri-Lox spearheaded the design of the taproom, which is crafted with sustainably sourced woods like figured maple.
The wraparound bar serves as the centerpiece of the taproom, spanning 40 continuous feet with sequenced maple slabs. The airy interior opens with intimate seating enclaves situated around industry heart pine tables, while tropical flora soaks up the abundant natural light flooding the space. Bright white walls are softened thanks to red velvet curtains that envelope the 45-seat taproom, which is located at the front of the facility overlooking the stainless steel production equipment. Colorful wallpaper crafted by artist Gretta Johnson adorns bathroom walls, as well.
“The Grimm’s craft truly exceptional beers by starting with specialized ingredients, and we approach the design and fabrication process in the same way. The entire bartop, for example, is milled from a carefully selected single maple tree that was cured for years. This level detail and precision can be seen in the Grimm’s products as well,” says Alexander Bender, cofounder and managing partner of Tri-Lox.
